15 Year old Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero, an Argentinian national and resident of United Arab Emirates, is set to represent his country at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games starting in Buenos Aires on 5thOctober, 2018. Joaquin will compete in the 200m Individual Medley on 7thOctober and the 200m Butterfly on 12th October, while also competing in relay events with his Argentinian team mates. The Youth Olympic Games will host over 2000 young athletes from over 150 countries in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Over the past 18 months, Joaquin has emerged as a fine young prospect for Argentina. He has won numerous national titles and most recently achieved an A Qualifying Time for the Youth Olympic Games. Despite the competition being for swimmers 18/Under, Joaquin managed to achieve his A Qualifying Time at just age 15 years old and will be racing swimmers over two years older than him at the competition.
Joaquin has been training in the UAE with Hamilton Aquatics for the past eight years. During this time, he has made it through the squad structure that has developed many international swimmers. He currently trains 8-10 times a week which includes pool sessions and land work in the gym. He has been training under the guidance of world class coach and Hamilton Aquatics Director of Performance, Ash Morris, who has guided many junior swimmers to the international representation in recent years.
Joaquin, who attends JESS Ranches School said ahead of the competition “I am really looking forward to racing in my home country – it is an opportunity not many people will ever get. I would like to come away with personal best times as my training has been going really well and I feel prepared for the competition.”
Ash Morris added, “Joaquin has trained exceptionally hard all summer in preparation for this event. He has earned his place at the prestigious games and will do his country and Hamilton Aquatics proud. For him to achieve this at the age of 15 years is commendable for him as well as our swimming academy.”
